Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Frank D. Murphy persevered through countless obstacles to living out his dream of playing professional football. His journey to the NFL began in high school where he won numerous awards as the senior running back and return specialist at West Nassau High School, including All-American, All-State, and Player of the Year. Murphy spent his first two years of college playing football for Itawamba Community College and Garden City Community College; subsequently, he was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-American first team and National Player of the Year. Murphy then transferred to football powerhouse Kansas State University in 1998. Murphy still holds three Powercat Strength Records: 4.22 in the 40-yard dash, 42″ vertical jump and 42.04 300 yard shuttle.

In 2008, Murphy was inducted into the National Junior College Hall of Fame. After a successful collegiate football career, Murphy was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2000. In the NFL, Murphy suited up as a running back, wide receiver and return specialist for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins, and Houston Texans. Murphy also played in the Canadian Football League for the Toronto Argonauts and in the United Football League for the Florida Tuskers. Murphy’s successful professional football career equipped him to train celebrity athletes. Beyond the football field, Murphy has consistently engaged with the community and support programs that educate and empower others to realize their dreams.

Throughout his career, Murphy has held numerous football camps, workshops and toy drives for at-risk youth; Murphy was granted the Key to the City of Callahan, Florida and has been honored with multiple awards and recognition for his community service, including the 2017 President Barack Obama Lifetime Achievement Award, a prestigious national honor offered to outstanding citizens in recognition of sustained volunteer services.

In 2017, Frank D. Murphy also received the Tampa Bay Lightning Community Hero Award, celebrating the philanthropic efforts of grassroots, and the ‘Most Valuable Philanthropist in Sports Award’ honoring the achievements of one deserving philanthropist in the world of sports each year. While devoting his work full time to community initiatives, Frank D. Murphy founded Mentoring With Purpose Charity, a nonprofit organization on a mission to inspire and empower young men and women to achieve their full potential as leaders, which hosts the annual Put Down Your Fake I.D. Leadership Conference.

Murphy is also the bestselling author of The Man Behind The Helmet. The Man Behind the Helmet book imparts life lessons Murphy learned along his journey to the NFL and beyond, and features a heartfelt forward by Superbowl-winning coach, Tony Dungy. In addition to writing, Murphy is known for his successful media productions, including the Frank D. Murphy educational stage play and the Frank D. Murphy podcast show.
